Since the morning of 26 January, a complete and spontaneous shutdown is being observed in the Kashmir valley. India is today celebrating its 72nd Republic Day.
Pertinent to mention that no organisation had called for a shutdown this year.
As per eyewitness accounts, all shops and business establishments are closed across Kashmir while public traffic is also off the roads.
In many parts of Srinagar, particularly it’s downtown areas, the government forces deployment has been beefed up and restrictions placed with armed personnel manning checkpoints at various places. Simultaneously, mobile internet services have also been snapped in the Kashmir valley.
As per official reports, the mobile internet services were also suspended including BSNL which is run by the state.
The suspension internet services on such occasions has become part of the preparation for the smooth ending of the programs in Kashmir.
