Kashmir Valley is observing a complete shutdown on Saturday, marking the one year since articles 370 and 35A were officially revoked and the erstwhile state was broken down into two union territories, on the call of the Hurriyat Conference.
On 5 August 2019, the BJP had announced in the parliament that it would reorganise the erstwhile state into two federally governed territories. Since then, the party has imposed sweeping laws like domicile and regarding the ownership of land.
In a tweet, the Conference had said: “We the people of Jammu and Kashmir will not bow down. We will continue to resist the Indian State’s designs to steal our land and destroy our identity.”
Nearly all shops and business establishments are closed while traffic is off the roads in the Valley.
