Srinagar: Expressing regret and concern over the continued detention of Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq, Imam Hai of Jamia Masjid and Vice President Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid Maulana Ahmad Sayed Naqashbandi Friday demanded his immediate release.
Addressing Friday sermon today at the historic Jamia Masjid, Naqashbandi expressed deep regret and concern at the continued detention of president Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid and Mirwaiz of Kashmir Mohammad Umar Farooq.
“Mirwaiz is under arbitrary continued house detention since August 5 2019 by the state authorities,” he said, adding that “Mirwaiz is the religious head of Muslims of Kashmir and incapacitating him from performing his religious duties as Mirwaiz and barring him from performing religious obligations as a Muslim of offering congregational Friday prayers is a violation of fundamental human rights.”
“Basic human and religious rights of entire people of Kashmir stand curbed,” he said, urging authorities to release Mirwaiz forthwith and allow him to lead the congregation in Jamia Masjid.
Imam Hai also urged the authorities to release all prisoners including youth languishing in various jails across India.
“People present in the mosque also expressed their sadness and anger at Mirwaiz’s incarceration and protested, demanding his immediate release. They also demanded the release of all those incarcerated by the authorities.”
On the occasion, a calendar for 1441 Hijri year 2020, was released. It is a joint collaboration between Mirwaiz Foundation and Anjuma Auqaf Jama Masjid and contains daily prayer timings, (Meeqat-ul- Salah) and Sehar and iftar timings. The Calendar was distributed free on the occasion. (KNO)
