On Monday, the National Conference (NC) distanced itself from People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti’s remark on the tricolor, stating that the party “will not compromise on the nation’s sovereignty and integrity”.
Addressing the media on Friday, former Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti had said that she will not hoist the tricolour till the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir is restored and the J-K flag is hoisted. The NC and PDP are part of the newly-formed People’s Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration, a forum to push for the restoration of J-K’s limited autonomy and statehood.
However, NC leader Devender Singh Rana on Monday said that the National Conference will not compromise on the nation’s sovereignty and integrity. Mr. Rana further added that “the nation’s sovereignty and integrity are supreme”.
“Jammu-based NC leaders raised concern over Mehbooba Mufti’s remarks in our meeting with Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah. They have assured us that no statement will be made by any Gupkar Alliance leader that harms the nation’s interests,” Devender Singh Rana said.
