Days before the yatra, Amarnath cave in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district witnessed fresh light snowfall after the weatherman predicted “erratic weather” till 21 June, local media reported.

“Fresh snowfall occurred at Panjtarni including Amarnath cave on Saturday morning. Weather is likely to remain erratic till 21 June,” an official said.

As per the official, the Amarnath cave recorded nearly two inches of snow accumulation on the ground.

The weatherman on Saturday predicted “erratic weather” with intermittent rain or snow over higher reaches and passes in J-K till 21 June.

The 43-day-long Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to start on 30 June and 2.5 lakh yatris have registered for the pilgrimage to date.
