Those involved in violation of human rights or child rights are not eligible for appointment as chairperson or member of Jammu & Kashmir Child Rights Commission, says Jammu & Kashmir Government.

A notice issued by the Government states that those with past record of violation of human rights or child rights are ineligible for key statutory positions in the rights body.

According to the notice, those sentenced and convicted for an offence which in the opinion of government involves moral turpitude are also not eligible for these positions.

The notice also states that those removed or dismissed by the central government or state government are also not eligible for these positions.

The notice has been issued by the J-K government for filling the post of chairperson and six members in the child rights panel. Among six members, two shall be women.

The J-K government has set the ball rolling for appointment of chairperson and members of the child rights panel.

The Social Welfare Department has constituted a five-member committee to shortlist candidates for these positions.

This is for the first time in history that Jammu & Kashmir will have an exclusive body to look into child rights violations. (KNO)
