Jhelum houseboat owners Saturday held a protest in Lalchowk, and demanded rehabilitation of 72 families living in damaged houseboats.
Talking to a local news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) President of Jhelum houseboat owners Noor Mohammad said that the tourism department had registered their houseboats in 2018 and promised to provide them rehabilitation at Nowgam, “but till date we are moving office to office but no one cares.”
“As winter is approaching, our houseboats are not in a condition to stay for winter. They will sink anytime in water as no one from us has repaired any boat, yet tourism authorities have deregistered our boats,” Noor said.
“We went to DC Srinagar, Div Com Kashmir and even order for rehabilitation has been already issued but still no further process is taking place,” he said
“We owners of houseboats along with our families appeal to the administration to rehabilitate us before winters and save our families.”—(KNO)
