A nocturnal gunfight broke out between militants and government forces near Panthachowk in the outskirts of Srinagar, reported a local news agency, Global News Service (GNS).
According to the reports reaching GNS, a joint team of the police, the army’s 20 and 50 Rashtriya Rifle (RR), and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation at Dobey Mohalla and closely connected Khanday Mohalla.
As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter.
An unnamed senior police officer confirmed to GNS the exchange of fire. As per the sources, three militants are believed to be trapped. Earlier three bike-borne militants had attacked a joint team of police and CRPF near Panthachowk in which no damage was done, they said. (GNS)
