A gunfight broke out between militants and the government forces in Melhura area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday, reported a local news agency, Global News Service (GNS).

The agency reported that a joint team of Police and army’s 55 RR launched a cordon and search operation in Melhura.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off an gunfight.

An unidentified senior police officer also confirmed to GNS about exchange of firing between militants and the government forces. (GNS)
