Gunfight broke out between militants and the government forces in Verinag forests of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday morning.
A joint team of the police, the army’s 02 Para and Central Reserve Police Force launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Verinag forests, reported a local news agency, Global News Service.
As the joint team approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off the gunfight.
An unnamed senior police officer also told GNS that the exchange of fire between the joint team and the militants started in the morning. (GNS)
