Srinagar: A fierce nocturnal gunfight is underway between militants and government forces in Manihal area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday.

As per a local news agency, GNS, a joint team of Police and Army launched a cordon and search operation in Manihal.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off an gunfight.

A senior police officer also confirmed about exchange of firing between militants and the government forces.

As per the sources two to three militants are believed to be trapped.

It’s pertinent to mention that recently a long gunfight ensued in Rawalpora area. In the gunfight Top JeM commander Wilayat Lone alias Sajad Afghani among two militants were killed. (GNS)
