The minimum temperature dipped across Kashmir Valley as Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 10.4°C, the weather official said on Saturday.

A meteorological department official told that the mercury settled at 0.6°C against the previous night’s 1.0°C in Srinagar. The summer capital of J-K has minus 0.4°C normal for this time of the year and from the last three days, the minimum temperature has stayed above sub-zero level.

Otherwise, the mercury has consistently remained far below normal this season. On 31 January, the mercury plunged to minus 8.8°C, the coldest January night recorded in Srinagar after 30 years.
The minimum temperature also fell in other parts of the Valley, the MeT official said.

The mercury settled at minus 6.3°C in the world-famous tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir against minus 3.6°C on the previous night while Qazigund, the gateway town of J-K, recorded a low of minus 1.5°C against minus 0.8°C on the previous night.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 2.5°C against minus 1.3°C on the previous night, he said.

The mercury settled at minus 1.8°C in Kupwara against minus 0.8°C on the previous night while Gulmarg, the world-famous skinning resort, recorded a low of minus 10.4°C against minus 9.4°C earlier night, he said.

The weatherman has forecast mainly dry weather over the plains of J-K in the next few days. (GNS)
