A Srinagar based photojournalist was assaulted at the University of Kashmir following an argument over not being allowed to enter the varsity premises.

The journalist identified as Ubaid Mukhtar, has suffered two stitches on his face and has a blurry vision after being attacked.

“I had gone to photograph the autumn inside the university, however I was disallowed by the security guards there. I told them that I was a journalist but the guard used unruly language against me and said journalists are thieves,” Mukhtar told The Kashmir Walla over the phone.

Adding that the guard punched him with “a sharp object” leading to a wound on his face, near his eye.

Police in a statement said that it registered an FIR on the basis of a “complaint from Mr Obaid Dar wherein he alleged that he was manhandled by the Watch & Ward Staff of Kashmir University.”

The Jammu and Kashmir Journalists Association (JAKJA) has condemned the act and called the assualt as deplorable.
