Government forces on Sunday destroyed an Improvised Explosive Devise (IED) that was recovered on Gohlad-Mendhar road in this border sub-division.

An unnamed official told a local news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the device was recovered during night patrol by a team of police headed by Station House Officer (SHO) Mendhar Manzoor Kohli under the supervision of a Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO). Mendhar Zaheer Jafri.

He said that the police team found the IED on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, following which an alert was issued.

He said that the Army’s bomb disposal squad also reached there on today morning.

“After proper examination and area clearance, the IED was destroyed in the afternoon,” he said.

The official said that the area is still under cordon and efforts are going on to nab those who planted this material on the road.

Khalid Amin, additional superintendent of Police Poonch said that the Army’s bomb disposal squad destroyed the IED and a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Mendhar police station.

He said that further investigation to identify the people behind this is going on. (KNO)
