At least five students were injured in a scuffle that broke out between students of government medical college Jammu and outsiders in the institution’s hostel.

A senior officer said that a student was attacked with an iron rod and sustained head injuries with 12 stitches, while four others also received minor injuries.

SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli said there has been an incident of scuffle between some students and outsiders in GMC Hostel, Jammu.

“The police have taken cognizance of the matter and investigation is going on,” they said.

Sources said that on Monday at about 2300hrs some scuffle took place between seniors and junior medical students at boys hostel GMC Jammu over sharing of a movie link ‘The Kerala Story’ in a group in which 05 students got injured who were taken to GMC Jammu for medical treatment.

They injured were identified as Haseeb son of Sajjad from Bhaderwah, Arunesh son of Rajinder Singh from Udhampur, Akshit son of Kuldev Parsad from Billawar, Aniket son of Surinder Kumar resident of Udhampur and Umar Farooq son of Farooq Hussain resident of Budgam.

Police by taking the cognizance has lodged a FIR No. 65/2023 u/s 147, 323 IPC, they said, adding while another FIR no. 66/2023 u/S 451, 323 IPC has been filed and further investigation has been taken up.(KS)
