Gita Mittal, former Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, has been awarded the prestigious Arline Pacht Global Vision Award by the International Association of Women Judges.

Margarita Luna Ramos from Mexico has also been named for the award.

“The International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ), founded in 1991, has announced that this year, the Arline Pacht Global Vision Award shall be presented to Chief Justice Gita Mittal (Former Chief Justice, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir) and Margarita Luna Ramos from Mexico,” read the press note released by the Association.

It further read: “This is the very first time that an Indian judge has been honoured by the Association at an international platform.”

Mittal was the first female Chief Justice of the J-K High Court who retired in December last year after over 28 months of service at the Court. She was sworn in on 11 August 2018, as the 36th Chief Justice of J-K High Court.

The award will be presented at the 2021 Biennial Conference of the IAWJ during the opening ceremony on 7 May.

The IAWJ, founded in 1991, is a non-profit, non-governmental organization whose members represent all levels of the judiciary worldwide and share a commitment to equal justice for women and the rule of law.
