The popular talk show of senior Pakistan journalist, Hamid Mir has been taken off air following his remarks on country’s establishment.

Mir himself broke the news himself saying that he was expecting the ban. He said nothing such a ban was not new for him as he was banned twice in the past too.

On Saturday, Mir hit out at the country’s establishment claiming that the latter wants media to run a pro-friendship narrative with rival India.

“You [establishment] say that your tanks have rusted and that you want friendship with India, when we don’t help you build the new narrative of friendship with India, you call out media for not helping you,” the high profile journalist can be heard saying in a video which is viral on social media.

His statement came after three unidentified men assaulted a prominent Pakistani journalist, Asad Ali Toor, after breaking into his apartment, according to the journalist, his lawyer and police.

Hamid Mir has survived an assassination attempt in the past.

Several journalists stepped forward to show solidarity with Hamid Mir. Asma Sherazi, the host of a TV talk show, said the channel management must clarify their position.

Owais Mangalwala pointed out the reason behind the ban. He said Hamid Mir’s hard-hitting comment at a recent rally in support of journalist Asad Toor had raised many eyebrows.

The management of the channel where Hamid was employed for over a decade, has confirmed to media that anchorperson Hamid Mir will not be able to host ‘Capital Talk’ indefinitely.

According to Geo Administration sources, Hamid Mir has been sent on leave for a few days.
