The army Tuesday said that four militants were killed in an gunfight at Surankote area of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The northern army command in a tweet said: “Operation Trinetra-II. In a major cordon and search operation, acting on a specific intelligence, four terrorists were eliminated in a joint operation by army and police near Sindarah and Maidana villages in tehsil Surankote of Poonch district (sic).”
The tweet further said that along with the militants four AK-47, two pistols, and other war like stores were also recovered. “Elimination of these militants has avoided major militant initiated incidents in Rajouri and Poonch area. Search operations are still in progress,” the army said.
A senior police official said that the identity of the slain was being ascertained and that it was being investigated whether the group was involved in Dhangri, Rajouri civilian killings and attack on army vehicles in Poonch besides other incidents.
