Forest department officials along with police have seized around 20 logs measuring 40 feet illegal timber, dumped under earth, on late Sunday night in Kulangam village of Handwara of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

An official said that the Kandi Range of Kamraj forest division after a specific input, launched a joint operation along with Police and seized the illegal timber, which was dumped under the earth in the residential house of one Ab Majeed War of Kulangam.

The official said further investigation in this regard has been taken up and the seized stock had been dispatched to FSD Sopore.

He said the seized stock includes 20 logs of Deodar and Kail, 40 feet, while the source of timber is being ascertained.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case FIR No. 03/2023 U/S 379 IPC, 26 IF Act at PS Handwara and have initiated further investigation. (KNS)
