India has recorded 1,31,968 fresh COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours, making it the fourth time in the last five days that daily cases have crossed the lakh mark.
The fresh cases have taken the total number of infections in India, since the pandemic began, past 13 million.
India is now the third worst-hit country after Brazil and United States.
As per the Union Health Ministry, India reported 780 deaths in the last 24 hours taking the fatality count to 1,67,642. The actives cases in the country are 9,79,608 and the total recoveries are 1,19,13,292.
The surge in COVID-19 cases has forced many states and Union Territories to impose fresh restrictions in order to curb the spread of the virus, even though no major lockdowns have been announced.
This is the fourth time in five days when India witnessed over one lakh fresh COVID-19 cases.
Several reports claim that several districts in Maharashtra have stopped vaccinations completely as they have run out of vaccine doses.
Meanwhile, the government has been on alert after growing apprehensions of AstraZeneca’s Covid vaccine being linked to a rare blood clot.
Scientists of IIT-Kanpur have made a new prediction for the second wave of the Covid-19 in the country, saying that it will peak in mid-April between 15 and 20 April before it starts declining, reported India Today.
