Mehbooba Mufti has said that First Information Report (FIR) against three army personnel who allegedly Kidnapped a nine-year-old girl in north Kashmir “is a charade to sweep the incident under the carpet.”

Taking to her Twitter handle, the Peoples Democratic Party President said, “Army men who tried to lure a 9 year old minor girl into their car with a 500 rupee note in Bandipora have not been charged under Section 354 dealing with molestation charges in the FIR. Prima facie it seems that the FIR is only a charade to sweep this incident under the carpet.”

On Tuesday, a report said that police booked three army personnel who were found allegedly involved in the abduction bid on a nine-year-old girl last week in Chewa area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

A local news gathering agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) quoting unnamed officials reported that the three persons who were held on 10 February this month were army troopers.

“The accused Army troopers have been identified as Subedar Harbachan Singh, Naik Amit Tahkor, and Hawaldar Manzoor Ahmad. All the three are under police detention,” the agency quoted sources as saying.

An official was also quoted confirming to the agency that police have registered an FIR bearing number 15/2021 under sections 341, 363, 511 IPC last week at Police Station Sumbal following the family’s complaint.

Speaking to The Kashmir Walla on Tuesday, the father of the girl said that the police were investigating the matter. “I am glad that my daughter is fine. I am a daily wage laborer and can’t follow up on what’s going on. She was returning from her class when the trio, as per eyewitnesses, attempted to take her away,” he said.

He also added that as per the eyewitnesses the trio was in a Maruti Alto car and trying to take her inside the car. “They were carrying three different number plates in the car,” he said.
