Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir police Wednesday slapped Public Safety Act (PSA) on a drug smuggler, who was evading arrest from last several months.

An official said that a drug smuggler identified as Manzoor Ahmad, son of Mohammad Maqbool of Khumriya was evading arrest from several months. He was wanted in narcotics smuggling, he said, reported wire-service KNO.

The arrested person was wanted in case, 178/2019 under section 8/20 NDPS act, registered against him, the official said.

The official said that a charge-sheet was produced in the local court, citing him as threat to the life of youth, following which the accused was slapped with Public Safety Act (PSA), keeping in view the adverse effects he could have caused in times to come.

Moreover, the official said that Kupwara police along with Director Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended a person identified as Zafar Ali, son of Fateh Ali of Parada Karnah along with contraband substance of about 4.272 Kg.

On apprehending, Zafar revealed that he has received the courier from Nisar Ahmad Badhana, son of Suliman Badhana of Amrohie Karnah, who was already wanted under a case, 43/2019 under section 8/21 NDPS act, but was evading arrest for sixth consecutive month.

Badhana was also arrested after police launched a manhunt against him, official said. (KNO)
