At least five persons were injured in a clash between supporters of two contesting candidates at a polling station in Salwah in Mendhar-C during the District Development Council (DDC) elections on Saturday.

An unknown official source told a local news agency Global News Service (GNS) that there was a clash between supporters of an independent candidate, Mohd Ashfaq, and a People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) candidate Zeeshan Rana (National Conference) at the polling station.

While polling continuing at the polling station despite the clash, the injured were shifted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Mendhar for first aid. Four of them have been identified as Mohd Khaliq, Niaz Ahmed, Ifthikar Ahmed (Provisional NC Student Union president), and Naseem Akhter, all residents of Salwah.

Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Mendhar Z A Jafri confirmed the incident to GNS. He, however, said that polling was going unabated in the area. (GNS)
