A Muslim family beat their daughter and a Dalit youth to death in Vijayapura district of Karanataka city for falling in love against the family’s wishes, reported Press Trust of India (PTI) quoting a police official.
Vijayapura Superintendent of Police Anupam Agrawal told PTI that four people, including the girl’s father and her brother, have been arrested while one person is absconding,
According to information received by the news agency, the incident happened on 22 June in Saladahalli village in Devara Hipparagi Taluk of Vijayapura when the 19-year old Basavaraju and the 16- year old Davalabi were attacked.
As per the report, the girl’s family had warned Basavaraju against the love affair but he did not pay any heed.
The couple was in the field on Tuesday afternoon when Davalabi’s father and brother reached the spot along with three others and attacked both of them with stones and sticks and fled the place after killing them, reported PTI quoting the police.
As per the report, police personnel reached the spot, soon after receiving information regarding the incident, and sent the bodies for autopsy.
