Srinagar: A COVID-19 infected elderly man from Handwara area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district died at Chest Disease hospital on Monday, taking the death toll due to the coronavirus pandemic to forty-four in Jammu and Kashmir.

This is the third COVID-19 patient’s death since morning in Kashmir as earlier in the day, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel posted in south Kashmir who was admitted in Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Srinagar, breathed his last after testing positive for the pandemic. A few hours after him, a 35-year-old man from Khanyar area of Srinagar, who had met an accident and had contracted the deadly virus, succumbed at the hospital in Srinagar.

Dr. Saleem Tak, Medical Superintendent at the hospital confirmed to a local news agency that a COVID-19 positive patient who was undergoing treatment at the hospital has died on Monday afternoon. “He was 65-year-old and hailed from Handwara area of Kupwara,” he said. “The patient was very sick and had many underlying issues.”

The death toll due to COVID-19 positive patients in Jammu and Kashmir has reached to forty-four which includes thirty-nine from Kashmir division (including a non-local tailor and a CRPF personnel) and five from Jammu division. (KNO)
