Srinagar: At least four Bharatiya Janta Party workers part of a delegation that met Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu during his Kupwara visit on 18 July have tested positive for coronavirus.

Mr. Murmu had visited frontier district Kupwara to take stock of the developmental activities there. He also had interacted with several delegations including representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies, Traders Federation, Auqaf Committees, Transporters, Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association as well as the senior citizens and some BJP workers.

A local news gathering agency Kashmir News Trust quoting unnamed officials reported that four BJP workers who also met LG have been declared positive for Covid-19 infection. As the news about these workers broke, DDC office Kupwara was fumigated and the employees who managed the affairs during LG’s visit have been quarantined.

Chief Medical Officer, Kupwara, Dr. Kounsar admitted that four members in BJP delegation that had met LG on Saturday have been declared COVID positive. “We are trying to identify all the contacts of these BJP workers and they will be quarantined and tested,” she said.

District Development Commissioner Kupwara, Ansul Garg told KNT that while meeting with LG, members in a delegation maintained wide distance.

“We had taken all the precautionary measures but yet, the contacts of these infected people including security personnel have been traced and even some employees have been quarantined,” Mr. Garg said adding that DC office Kupwara has already been fumigated. (KNT)
