Srinagar: Dozens of people, especially youth, were arrested in nocturnal raids in Zaingeer, Sopore, north Kashmir, after they defied the government’s prohibitory order to attend the funeral procession of a Jaish-e-Mohammad militant on Wednesday.

A senior police officer said that the police has arrested dozens of people who were identified through videos and more arrests are expected from different villages of Zaingeer belt in coming days, reported a local news wire, KNO.

Police officials said that the participation of large number of people in the funeral of the killed militant not only violated the set guidelines issued by the government amid the COVID-19 outbreak, but it also exposed the entire population in the area to the pandemic.

An FIR vide number 70/2020 under section 188 was registered in this regard and videos of this procession were being checked for the identification of the attendees. (KNO)
