Srinagar: Principal Sessions Judge Kulgam Mohd. Ashraf Malik on Tuesday convicted a policeman Sanjay Kumar Rai for life imprisonment for killing his three colleagues and injuring the fourth one in the year 2011.

According to the judgment passed by Sessions Judge Kulgam, spread over more than 175 pages reads, “On 24th  Dec 2011 accused had fired several gunshots with his INSAS service riffle during late hours in MT Barrack  Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) of  18 battalion Kulgam, during which several policemen were seriously injured, among which three succumbed and the Limb of the fourth cop was amputated. Meanwhile, Police had reached on spot and registered a case bearing FIR No 271/2011 in police station Kulgam,”

After the presentation of challan before the Sessions Court Kulgam, against the accused policeman, the charge was framed against him on 24-11-2011, and the statement of thirty witnesses was also recorded by sessions court during the trial and on  07-03-2019, the court has closed the prosecution evidence.

On Tuesday, Principal sessions Judge Kulgam, Mohammad Ashraf Malik after finding the cop guilty for the crime sentenced him to life imprisonment. (CNS)
