A government college today was named after a slain police officer here in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Official sources told a local news agency, Kashmir News Trust (KNT) that Government Degree College Kelam in Kulgam has been renamed as ‘Inspector Shri Muhammad Altaf Dar Degree College’.

They said in this regard a function cum inauguration ceremony was held in the college.

Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Bilal Mohiuddin, Principal of the college Dilruba Rasool Hamdani, college faculty members and father of slain Inspector Bashir Ahmed Dar were present on the occassion.

A board installed at the entrance of the college depicted photograph of the slain police officer with name in both Urdu and English.

Pertinently, Police Inspector Muhammad Altaf Dar alias ‘Altaf Laptop’ was known for his counter-intelligence operations in Jammu and Kashmir. He was killed in Gund Dachin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district in 2015. (KNT)
