Massive clashes erupted in Rahmoo area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday afternoon, reports and official said.

They said that scores of people took to streets and staged a protest in Rahmoo for allowing them to offer prayers. They said when the sale of liquor was allowed in outside states “why are we not being allowed to discharge our religious obligation to offer prayers in mosques.”

The police and CRPF deployment tried to disperse them by firing teargas canisters. The protesters hurled stones at the deployments, triggering clashes. The police and CRPF men also resorted to pellet firing to disperse the protesters, they said. When reports last came in, the protests were going on. There were no reports so far about injury to any person in the clashes.

Meanwhile, some people also hurled stones at the vehicles of CRPF near Muran while they were heading towards Rahmoo, they added. (GNS)
