A day after a 30-year-old lady was brutally murdered in the Ompora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, people from the neighbouring villages on Monday held a massive protest, demanding capital punishment for the accused involved in the case.
As per the news agency scores of agitated people on Monday afternoon gathered at the main chowk Ompora and held a strong protest against the accused man who after allegedly killing the lady, chopped her body into several pieces and disposed of them in various parts of the district.
The people raised slogans of ‘hang the culprit’ and ‘we want justice’, saying such people have no right to live in this society. They demanded capital punishment for the murderer and justice for the victim’s family.
“We cannot have such people in our society. Police have already identified the gruesome murderer. Now, we request the LG administration to do a court trial on a fast-track level and hang the culprit as soon as possible so that justice is delivered,” they said, adding, ’Today it was her, tomorrow it will be our sister, mother or wife.”
If the police don’t act on a fast-track basis, we will go to the Supreme Court and fight separately, the protesters said.
Meanwhile, several political parties, social organisations and auqaf committees condemned the “inhuman act” and demanded justice for the victim’s family. (KNO)
