The Gautam Buddha Nagar police have arrested two men for allegedly killing their 30-year-old sister and dumping her body in the Hindon River to allegedly “protect the honour” of the family, reported The Indian Express.
The police said after dumping the body in the river, the accused filed a missing complaint at a police station.
According to the police, the accused — identified as Sartaj, 28, and Shahrukh, 32, and residents of Phase-2 — killed their married sister.
“On March 13, the police recovered a dead body from the Hindon River in the Ecotech-3 police station area. We were trying to identify the victim because prima facie it looked like a murder case and this was confirmed in the postmortem report also that she was strangled to death. In the meantime, a person named Sartaj filed a missing complaint at the Surajpur Police station. We received information about the complaint and he had also stated that the recovered dead body could be of his sister,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Rambadan Singh.
“So, we questioned them. And when we interrogated them thoroughly, they said that Najma was their sister and she was married to a person named Sajid. They had some matrimonial disputes. The deceased’s husband lives in Masoori, Ghaziabad and works as a scrap dealer. The brothers suspected their sister. When they came to know that she also drinks, they first killed her and then took her body in a car and threw it into the Hindon river,” added DCP Singh.
The police said Najma and Sajid used to live in Surajpur but had been living separately for the last year, as per the report.
A case under sections 302 (Murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender)
of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at the Ecotech-3 police station. The accused were produced in local court and sent to jail.
