Srinagar: Junaid Mattu has lost the mayorship to no-confidence motion against him in the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), after “Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and National Conference (NC) came together” in the city.
In a tweet, Mr. Mattu revealed, “The seemingly unthinkable seems to have happened as @JKNC_ and @BJP4India have come together in Srinagar.” The no-confidence against him was passed with 42 out of 70 votes, wherein People’s Conference and Congress abstained from voting.
“I respect the verdict of the Corporation,” he said in a thread. “For those who know me – they would know that I take this verdict with humility and my chin up! I am committed to serving the people of Srinagar to the best of my abilities now and also in the future.”
He also expressed his gratitude to PC’s chairman Sajad Lone as well as his party colleagues in the SMC. “I’ll continue to work with you and uphold your trust,” he wrote.
“I will be writing about this and the unexpected alliance forged in SMC in due time,” he wrote about NC and BJP coming together against him. “For now – time to kick back.”
