One vehicle has been put on standby at the spot as a precautionary measure.
An official from the Fire & Emergency department said that the fire broke out in a three-storey hardware store building.
“The news about the fire at Batamaloo was received at approximately 2 pm, following which Fire & Emergency Services personnel along with the machinery rushed to the spot and started dousing the flames,” the Division Fire Officer (DFO) Tasaduk Ahmad said.
He said the fire broke out from the top storey and later engulfed the entire building.
