Peoples Democratic Party President, Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said that the abrogation of article-370 and 35A has made the separatist sentiment stronger in Kashmir.

Mufti made the comments while talking to NDTV after the conclusion of People’s Alliance of Gupkar Declaration’s (PAGD) meeting.

The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir further said that the mainstream parties were acting like a bridge between India and Jammu and Kashmir, and that the actions by centre weakened that bridge,  “Mainstream parties, Article 370 and Article 35A were the bridge between Jammu and Kashmir and India. What was done by the Centre weakened India in Jammu and Kashmir,”

She further said that the failure on the ground has prompted the centre to invite the unionists from Kashmir for a meeting, “More boys are picking up guns, the situation is not getting better in J-K, and there is so much suppression. So the centre has realised that the suppression is not working,” Mehbooba said.

Adding that while she was not too excited about the outcome of the meeting, she, however, was hopeful that something would come out of it, ” I hope it is more than a photo-op.”

Earlier in the day, PAGD said that Mufti, Farooq Abdullah and M Y Tarigami would attend the all party meeting convened by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 24 January.
