Army installed a 100-feet-tall national flag at popular tourist destination Gulmarg in north Kashmir on Tuesday.
The move was part of celebrating 75 years of independence, Army said in a statement.
The “modest” ceremony was presided over by Army Commander Northern Command, Lt Gen Y K Joshi, who also honoured the next of kin of various soldiers who have made “ultimate sacrifice in the service of the nation”.
The Army Commander also felicitated certain members of the civil society who “contributed immensely towards nation building through various endeavours”, the statement said.
Gen Joshi on the occasion said “the flag is (a) tribute to countless Kashmiris who have made the ultimate sacrifice(s) while safeguarding the unity and integrity of the nation”.
