Two militants were killed in an overnight gunfight at Semthan Bijbhera area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday.

Official sources told a local news agency, Global News Service (GNS) that two militants have been killed in the gunfight which started late Saturday afternoon.

“The duo was responsible for the killing of Army jawan and were neutralized within two days,” IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said.

The TA soldier, Mohammad Saleem Akhoon son of Ghulam Hassan Akhoon of Bijbhera was killed near native village on 9 April.

Earlier, a joint team of police and army launched a cordon and search operation in the area. The operation, officials said, was suspended yesterday.

As the joint team approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering off a gunfight. (GNS)
