Amid heightened security measures across the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, Republic Day functions were held on Tuesday across the region even as the mobile internet services remained suspended in the valley.
A local news gathering agency Kashmir News Service, (KNS) quoting unnamed officials reported that the republic day was celebrated across J-K amid elaborate security arrangements and no untoward incident was reported anywhere in J-K.
They said that the day passed off peacefully while the main republic day function in Jammu was observed at MA Stadium where the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha unfurled the tricolour.
“In Kashmir, the main function was held at Srinagar’s SK stadium, where Advisor to LG, Baseer Ahmad Khan unfurled the tricolour and took salute at the march past,” the officials said.
They said that at the concerned districts, sub-divisions and tehsil headquarters, the concerned deputy commissioners, sub-divisional magistrates and tehsildars respectively unfurled the tricolour.
Meanwhile, mobile internet services remained suspended throughout the day in the Kashmir valley while broadband services remained functional.
An official said that the mobile internet services where snapped in the valley at midnight and remained suspended all through the day as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, all shops and other business establishment remained closed while the thin movement of public and private transport was seen plying on the roads on republic day in the valley.
Inspector General of police, Kashmir division, Vijay Kumar told KNS that the situation remained peaceful across the Kashmir valley as no untoward incident was reported from anywhere and all the functions organized on the occasion of republic day passed off peacefully. (KNS)
