After the merger of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre, the AGMUT cadre is now the largest cadre in area across India as it has three States and eight Union Territories (UTs).
Unnamed official sources told a local news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that it will be challenging for the officers of AGMUT cadre to serve in J-K besides that officers of Jammu and Kashmir cadre have more powers and challenges as compares to other officers of AGMUT.
It is likely that Jammu and Kashmir will be placed as “Hard Area” like Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep as in AGMUT cadre there are hard and soft areas, they said.
They further added that given the sensitiveness of J-K, the three year service rules may not apply and officers can be given time to work in J-K for longer durations.
It is pertinent to mention here that J-K was merged with AGMUT last week and now any officer belonging to the AGMUT cadre are eligible to be posted in J-K and Ladakh and vice versa.
The States part of AGMUT include Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Goa while eight Union Territories include J-K, Ladakh, Chandigarh, Delhi, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dadara, Nagar and Haveli. (KNO)
