The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Asaduddin Owaisi has said that the abrogation of article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir was done unconditionally and maintained his position of it being a “constitutional breach.”
Owaisi made the remarks while speaking against the Jammu and Kashmir Re-organisation Amendment Bill 2021 in Lok Sabha.
In August 2019, New Delhi abrogated the article-370 of the constitution granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir. In doing so, the central government put in unprecedented restrictions, cutting down communication for days and imposing a curfew.
Owaisi said that even though the UT was a Muslim majority area, they are represented in minority in government posts.
Alleging that Kashmir is one of the firsts in BJP’s rule to get converted into a Union Territory, Asaduddin said that other cities like Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad will also suffer the same fate.
