Police On Wednesday said it “rescued” BJP’s Vice President Municipal Committee Watergam Baramulla, Meraj ud Din Malla who was allegedly abducted by some unknown persons in the north Kashmir district.

“The person has been rescued by police,” Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar told a local news agency, GNS. However, he declined to divulged further details.

A police official said that details would be revealed after Mr. Malla’s “interrogation”.

Earlier, an unnamed senior police officer told GNS that Mr. Malla was bundled into a santro vehicle by the “unknown persons” while he was walking on a road to meet his friend. The officer said that searches were launched to trace him. Asked whether the alleged abductors were armed, the officer had said: “It is a matter of investigation.” Malla had won unopposed from Marazigund (A and B) wards as a BJP candidate. (GNS)
