Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti today said that government of India is converting J-K into military garrison by allocating land in tourist areas to armed forces.
Earlier, the government had declared 1034 kanals of land in Gulmarg and 354 in Sonamarg as ‘strategic areas for armed forces.
While reacting on this move, Mehbooba wrote on twitter: “Allocating thousands of kanals to armed forces that too in tourist areas confirms GOIs intention to convert J-K into a military garrison. Under the ‘state land’ pretext , our land is up for grabs & to add insult to injury locals are being evicted from their homes.”
As reported earlier, divisional commissioner Kashmir Pandurang Kondbarao Pole had said that it was just nod by government to allow the use of land to army for training purposes.
