The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Shopian visited the district’s hospital to take firsthand account after a family alleged the hospital management of administering expired medicines, and ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Sachin Kumar, the DDC, told The Kashmir Walla that the parents of the infant showed him “the medicines administered [by the hospital] and it was found that there were two expiry dates on the same medicine”. Subsequently, Kumar constituted a committee comprising Assistant Commissioner Revenue and Chief Medical Officer Shopian and directed to submit the report by today.
“Committee has been constituted to look into the matter and investigation will be completed by today afternoon,” Kumar said. “Further course of action will be decided accordingly.”
On Friday, Mohammad Iqbal Kataria, the father of an infant and resident of Devpora Shopian, had alleged in a video statement, which later went viral on social media platforms, that his “child was administered twelve expired injections by the medicos in the hospital”. He added that his child was admitted for the treatment of pneumonia four days ago.
Mohammad Ismail, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Shopian, had denied the allegation talking to The Kashmir Walla on Friday and had said, “if the child would have been given twelve expired injections as claimed by her father she would not have been alive.”
He further said that a team was constituted to investigate the matter and the concerned nurse was immediately put under suspension, “till the investigation is completed”.
