Jamia Millia Islamia University, in New Delhi, has put the odd semester/year-end exam on hold after students from Jammu and Kashmir raised the issues they face due to restricted mobile internet speed in the regions.
Jamia Millia Islamia, a central university, on its official Twitter handle wrote, “The VC @ JmIU_Official has put the odd semester/ year-end (sic) exam through online proctored Mode on hold considering various issues raised by students.”
Earlier, The Kashmir Walla had reported that Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, a pan India grouping of students from J-K, wrote to Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal and the Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), Najma Akhtar about the issue. This week, the government extended the high-speed internet ban in J-K till 25 December.
After the university’s decision, the former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti expressed her gratitude to the management of the university. “Thank you for taking our concerns into consideration. I am sure the students here will be relieved,” she said. (Inputs from KNS)
