Kashmir Police on Thursday arrested a member of the Congress party, accusing him of ferrying militants in Shopian district of south Kashmir.
An unnamed senior police officer told a local news agency, Global News Service (GNS), that the member, advocate Gowhar Ahmed Wani of imamsahab Shopian, who was allegedly held while ferrying militants on 7 December, has been arrested by Shopian police.
“In this connection, a case under UAPA has been registered at police station imamsahab, Shopian,” the police officer said.
Unnamed sources told the agency that the government forces had inputs that militants were traveling in a car and when 44 Rashtriya Rifle of Army intercepted it at Baba Khader Rampura Chowk in Trenz area, the militants escaped and left vehicle near Pargachoo.
They said that Wani had jumped out of the vehicle when the car was intercepted and said that he was a victim. Wani was later questioned and was formally arrested today, they added. (GNS)
