The army Tuesday said that government forces averted a major militant attack by detecting a 30 kg Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Tengpora Bund in Srinagar.

In a statement to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), defence spokesman in Srinagar Colonel Emron Musavi said that security forces averted a major militant attack after explosive detection dog detected a 30 kg power IED at Tenpora Bund in Srinagar.

“Based on the specific inputs, a search operation was launched by Ganderbal based Rashtriya Rifles Battalion, JKP and CRPF in general area Tenpora. Search operation led to recovery of an IED weighing 30 Kgs near Tangpora Band which is just 700 meters away from National Highway. The IED was safely destroyed in-situ by Army Bomb Squad. The timely recovery thwarted the design of militants to destabilize the security situation in the valley,” the defence spokesman said, adding that the IED was detected by the explosive detection dog and thereby a major militant attack was foiled—(KNO)
