PDP president and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said that Kashmir political leaders and youth detained should have been released as part of Confidence Building Measure (CBM) before talks.
However, she said, “We did not want to do anything which will hinder the talks process which has been started.”
“I wanted detainees including political leaders and youth lodged in various jails across the country be released or those who have serious allegations against them shifted to Kashmir jails as Confidence Building Measure (CBM),” she said while talking to reporters after visiting the grave of her father—Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the PDP founder and former two time Chief Minister of J-K.
“They (detainees) are poor people whose families are finding it difficult to meet them. This is very painful. But at this movement we do not want to do anything which will hinder the talk’s process which has been started and tomorrow somebody will say we scuttled the dialogue process.”
Mehbooba said that “we are going there (New Delhi) with the hope that we will talk openly and hear them also.” (GNS)
