Srinagar: After Vice Chancellor, three more top officials from Kashmir University have been tested positive for COVID-19. The University has decided to shut it Campus for two days, in wake of the surge in Covid-19 cases.

Registrar Kashmir University Registrar Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir issued a formal order today advising employees experiencing symptoms of Coronavirus to get themselves screened for Covid19.

The main campus of Kashmir University will remain shut for two days (April 23 and April 24).

Insiders told a local news agency, Kashmir News Trust that fresh Covid cases have been reported from the Department of Computer Science, Distance Education, Kashmiri Department, Zoology, Academic Section, Tabulation, Education Department.

They said after Vice Chancellor, Chief Proctor and his wife, Dean Research, Head Chemistry Department have been tested positive for Covid-19. This was confirmed to KNT by In-Charge Healthcare Officer Kashmir University Dr Ishfaq Zari and Nodal Officer Dr Suriya.

Both these Health Officers said that situation is under control and there are only sporadic cases of Coronavirus.

“Recently we conducted tests at a hostel. Out of 100 only 2 including a girl student from Baramulla were tested positive,” she said adding the condition of VC Kashmir University is bit stable.
VC Kashmir University is currently admitted at SKIMS Covid Ward.

Pertinently, during the 3 days vaccination drive at Kashmir University that was meant for the employees above 45 years old, out of targeted 1500, only 300 teaching and non-teaching staff turned up. An official confirmed that response was poor while no interest and seriousness were shown by the employees and they stayed away from getting Covid shots.

“Top University officials who were in touch with infected ones, have been asked to self-isolate themselves. Administrative work is going on but staff has been asked to visit University on rotational basis,” said an insider to KNT.
