A 22-year-old man – son of the owner of Srinagar’s famous eatery Krishna Dhaba – was shot and wounded in a late evening attack on Wednesday.
The shooting took place in Dalgate area of Kashmir’s main city Srinagar, a short distance away from a hotel where a high-profile delegation of diplomats who are touring the region is staying.
Akash Mehra, who was shot at by the unknown assailants, is the son of the owner of Krishna Dhaba, news agency KNT reported.
The eatery is famous among tourists and serves vegetarian food.
It is not immediately clear if the attack was linked to the insurgents who in recent months have carried out at least one attack against non-local businesses when they shot dead a jeweler.
There was no immediate comment from the police.
Mehra was immediately shifted to a hospital where his condition is reported to be critical.
Medical Superintendent of SMHS hospital, Dr Nazir Choudhary, told another news agency KNO that Mehra has been hit by a bullet in his chest and is being operated at a trauma ward.
