The Jammu and Kashmir (J-K) High Court and other subordinate courts in J-K and Ladakh were asked to observe a two-minute silence on 30 January as “mark of respect” for those “who sacrificed their lives during struggle for India’s freedom”.
An order, undersigned by Registrar General Jawad Ahmad, stated: “It is notified for the information of all concerned that ‘two minutes’ silence shall be observed on 30 January 2021 at 11:00 am as a mark of respect in the memory of those who sacrificed their lives during struggle for India’s freedom by everyone in the High Court as well as in all subordinate courts in the UTs of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.”
India marks its Martyrs’ Day on 30 January, the death anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Also called Father of the Nation, Gandhi was shot dead by Nathuram Godse.
The erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir had it’s official Martyrs Day on 13 July, when it commemorated the 1931 killing of protestors by Dogra forces.
